Coloring Equality is a program for children in grades 4-6 who are interested in learning more about themselves through artistic activities in a small group setting.
This program will explore topics like:
Social Justice Education - Our art sessions aim to introduce elementary students to integral topics that affect the way the world sees social justice today. The prevalence of these issues is becoming apparent now more than ever—from the enthusiasm in BLM protests to the push for climate change regulations in recent years—making it even more critical that coming generations understand these issues and their impact in making a change.
Art Exploration - The elementary grades are the perfect time to explore one's artistic side. As kids, we tend to take more risks with our creativity, and in a group, environment innovation can thrive. In Coloring Equality sessions, students will have the opportunity to use different mediums (ex. acrylic paint, oil pastels, colored pencils, mixed media, etc.) and different styles of art (realism, expressionism, symbolism, etc.) Exposure to varied art mediums and styles lets students find what they really love and the best way to express themselves!
Building Community - Each session contains a discussion-based portion where students will have the opportunity to build on each other's ideas and brainstorm how they can express their views on social justice issues together. Discussions foster a mindset where students can understand how collaboration and diverse thoughts are needed to create real change.
Participants will try out diverse types of art forms. Sessions will also emphasize skills and habits to nurture their unique passions, such as social justice education, art exploration, and community building.

What you need to bring: Nothing! All materials will be provided and you can take an Art Kit home!
