DPYS sponsors the summer Leader-In-Training program at Comm Ed each year for rising 7th and 8th graders. This course was designed to help young people recognize leadership, citizenship and communication as important skills in their development. This program provides an opportunity for young people to practice a variety of life skills while learning about such things as positive communication, getting along with others, making good decisions, understanding different teaching and learning styles, managing resources and people, and working with groups. Basic leadership knowledge and skills are essential for success in almost any field whether someone is president of a club, captain of a team, director of a project, or a member of a working group. This experience will help youth prepare themselves for the challenges of the future.
